Just about got this thing installed I think.
Amazing how easy these installs are nowadays, wasn't too long ago editing config files was something done by hand.

Well then. I'm not really sure what this blog will be about. I'm guessing it'll mostly be documentation of some of my fabulous Internet journeys but I can't guarantee it won't include a rant or two about stupid creationists or nuclear power plants.

You see, I'm in the habit of getting totally engrossed in some obscure subject (thanks wikipedia ...) then just googling madly about, following links until I find myself reading about something completely different but equally interesting 7 hours later. These things are mostly awesomely cool, at least when I'm reading about it, but sadly I forget all about it a few days later when I go travelling the Interwebs again.
So, the hope is I can use this to look back on some of the cool things I've found, and maybe you'll find them funny/interesting too, who knows.

An earlier journey of mine that I can remember ended when I found slug-like protist.
"Dictyostelium start out as separate, individual cells. In the event of adverse conditions, such as starvation, up to 100,000 cells will signal each other with cAMP and converge via chemotaxis. This process takes about 12 hours. This mass of cells is surrounded by an extracelluar matrix. This multicellular structure resembles a slug. This slug leave a trail of slime as it migrates. Some claim that the slug stage is a single organism, while others claim that it is a colony."
That is some mindbogglingly incredible stuff.

Another one lead me to reading a lot about primary cilia, I didn't even know we had something called primary cilia, THAT'S FRIGGIN AWESOME. Also they are involved in positioning of the organs, and thus some people who have situs inversus (that is, the heart on the wrong side etc) have PCD, a primary cilia disorder. This again of course led me onto other paths, which I can't recall.

I also recently got to thinking about this. What if we combined it with this and then added this.
Now that would be news worth reading.

So. I guess this gives you some idea of what I'll put up here.
